“Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About”

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a funny Babble article about a 6 year old’s descriptions of classic novels, based on their covers. I thought it would be a good thing to share on this Friday before Labor Day weekend! Read the full article here, and see all 22 book covers and descriptions.  Some of them are wonderfully funny.

Here are a few snippets:

The Catcher in the Rye:  “It doesn’t really have a story. The cover is weird. It doesn’t give you like any clue to what it is about on the cover, like other books do. ”

Wuthering Heights: “It looks weird. I think this must be a book about a tree. I would not read a book about just a tree. And it looks like it’s a sad tree too since it has no friends.”

Jane Eyre: “This is about a girl that goes mining. I don’t know why, but she looks like she would go mining, mining for gold. ”

Slaughterhouse Five: “It’s about the desert. It’s a mystery about the desert. You know, I think it’s actually about a slot machine that is lost in the desert.”
